Constant velocity joints, commonly known as CV joints, are located at each end of the drive shaft. They connect the wheels to the axles as well as to the transmission.

CV joints shift torque at a controlled speed to the wheels. They are also responsible for the up and down motions of the suspension system.

CV joints are filled with grease. This grease is held by a protective cover called the CV joint boot. Also known as the drive axle boot, this is where most CV common problems occur.

If the boot leaks or cracks, dirt and moisture can get in. Leaks or cracks can lead to the CV joint corroding, drying out and failing altogether. This deterioration can lead to severe problems as the CV joints can affect the axle and lead to more service problems.
